Developing cybersecurity talent is a national priority, particularly as digital systems and critical infrastructure continue to expand in scale and complexity.
In collaboration with the National Cybersecurity Center – Prime Minister’s Office, sponsorship was provided to Iraq’s top-performing students from the national Capture The Flag (CTF) competition, enabling their participation in the Middle East regional finals held in Egypt.
Why This Exposure Matters
CTF competitions simulate real-world cybersecurity challenges, requiring participants to apply technical skills across areas such as:
- Threat detection and analysis
- Vulnerability identification and exploitation
- Secure system design
- Incident response
This hands-on experience accelerates learning and bridges the gap between theory and practice. Exposure to regional competition further enhances capability by introducing participants to diverse methodologies and advanced techniques used across different countries.
National Impact of Cyber Talent Development
Investing in cybersecurity talent delivers measurable national value:
- Enhanced protection of critical infrastructure in sectors such as oil & gas, power, and public services
- Development of local expertise, reducing reliance on external resources
- Improved readiness to detect and respond to evolving cyber threats
- Alignment with international standards and best practices
Such initiatives contribute directly to strengthening Iraq’s digital resilience and long-term security posture.
Supporting the Ecosystem
Sponsorship and support of the national winning team reflects a broader commitment to enabling talent development and creating pathways for young professionals to gain real-world, high-impact experience.
Continued collaboration between public institutions, academia, and the private sector will be essential to scale these efforts and ensure sustained progress.
